The Environmental Club is a way officers and members use to raise awareness about environmental issues. We will give you the chance to get together and work on projects, activities, and events. Let's make MLA a greener place together! We hope you can join us!
Our Club
The Environmental Club is a group of students and contributing teachers who are committed to empowering environmental awareness and reducing environmental impact as individuals in a school setting and in the world as a whole.
Within the Environmental Science Club at Mater Lakes Academy, we give students the chance to get together and work on projects, activities, and events to help better our home (Earth). These activities consist of taking care of plants in Mrs. Kemper's greenhouse, doing a beach cleanup, making projects from recycled materials, and much more. Activities like these help better not only our school environment, but also the world we live in. Our end goal is to continue to spread awareness and become aware of any issues damaging our Earth.
Fairchild Challenge
The Environmental Science Club at Mater Lakes Academy has taken part in the Million Orchid Project from the Fairchild Challenge. Within this project, botany students and club members attach young orchids to trees around school campus. We are so excited to announce that we have earned the Fairchild Challenge Award School of Excellence! The Environmental Club is beyond grateful to have helped Mater Lakes Academy's Fairchild Club earn this.🌿
"At its core, The Million Orchid Project is a massive science experiment that allows us to make important discoveries about how native orchids grow and reproduce while educating and informing the public. Our citizen science approach actively engages the community in the conservation actions. Additionally, the science of The Million Orchid Project may help us develop more general strategies for orchid conservation and rescuing rare plants within a highly developed urban environment."
